Surgical Dermatology

We provide surgical treatment for numerous benign and malignant dermatology conditions.

For selected benign tumors, we feature the minimal incision technique. A small incision is made with a punch tool and the lesion is taken out through the small hole. Then one or two sutures are places to close the tiny wound. A sample of the possible lesions that may be treated well with this procedure include:

  • Epidermoid Cysts
  • Pilar Cysts
  • Lipomas
  • Benign Mole Removal

For malignancies such as Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and Melanoma, the first step in treating these tumors is to do a biopsy. Once the pathology has been read and in some cases the extent of the margins involved determined, the appropriate treatment is discussed with the patient. In many cases, there are numerous ways to treat the tumor, and in some cases, only one way. The following are a couple treatment options for the most common skin malignancies:

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): Imiquimod, 5-Fluorouracil, Electrodessication and Curettage, Excision and Closure, and Mohs Surgery
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC and SCCIS): Imiquimod, 5-Fluorouracil, Electrodessication and Curettage for SCCIS; Excision and Closure, Mohs Surgery for SCC
  • Melanoma: Excision and Closure for most melanomas, Mohs surgery for select melanoma in situ
